Fidel Castro was born in an eastern province of Cuba on August 13, 1926.
He has been one of the most dominant and ruthless political leaders ever who ruled Cuba for more than 50 years.
Fidel Castro was one of the six children of Angel and Lina Ruz.
His father, Angel was a wealthy man who dealt in sugar plantations.
He was sent to Havana University to study law where he developed strong political views about certain things such as nationalism, socialism and anti-imperialism, which he related back to the state of Cuba.
He get strongly inclined towards social justice and traveled across the nation to take part in rallies and other things.
He also was a part of the coup that was sent to Dominican Republic to overthrow the dictator Rafael Trujillo.
Even though the expedition failed miserably, that did not alter the drive of Fidel Castro towards social justice.
After his return, he joined an anticommunist political party by the name Partido Ortodoxo lead by Eduardo Chibas.
The motive behind the formation of this group was nationalism, social reforms and economic independence.
The group dissolved when Chibas shot himself during a radio show as he was unable to keep up to his promises of making a change in Cuba and also expose Fulgencio Batista's corrupt principles to run the state.
Fidel Castro got married to Mirta Diaz Balart and had a son, Fidelito.
His marriage ended up in his political connections strengthening and soon got his party recognized by the United States.
He planned an attack to overthrow Batista off his power, but was captured and sentenced to 15 years in prison which was cut down to 2 years.
This attack gave Fidel instant popularity amongst the Cubans which he used to gain control over Cuba.
Fidel went to Mexico where he met Che Guevera who also had similar ideologies and had already been successful in implementing them.
Che Guevera became a part of Fidel's group and shaped his political beliefs.
Fidels Castro's attempts to overthrow Batista off his seat went on till 1938 when Batista lost the elections and was extradited to Dominican Republic.
Castro was sworn in as the Prime Minister and used guerrilla tactics to gain instant control over Cuba.
He was inspired by the Soviet Union's way of functioning and started implying the same within his country.
Since the US was linked to Cuba, they warned Castro not be ruling like this.
The United States devised a lot of plans and attacks to overthrow Castro and bring stability in Cuba but failed miserably.
Fidel Castro ruled Cuba for decades till he finally resigned on February 19 2008 due to major health problems.
His brother, Raul was made the prime minister ad now continues to rule Cuba based on Fidel Castro's ideologies and principle though it is said that some changes are taking place in Cuba.
