2010 Cats Picture of the Week: T.T. (Trash to Treasure)

As I look at this picture and prepare to tell her story I reflect back to 2 years ago. This is T.T.'s story. It was a typical November day in the Florida Keys. Warm, sunny, wonderful ocean breeze with the smell of salt in the air. But there was something different about this day. My husband and his supervisor found a cat hiding under the company dumpster. She was skinny, scared and had a severe wound to her shoulder.

Imagine if you will these two old gruff men trying to convey to this cat that they could help her if she would just come out. "HERE KITTY, KITTY" (in gruff old man talk). She wanted so desperately to be helped, but too scared to admit it. Between the two of them they managed to coax her out from under the dumpster. She was bleeding and weak, but still had some spit in her.

She was rushed to the local vet and was simply given the name "stray" . The vet stitched her up, gave her meds and kept a watchful eye on her for the next two days. Once she was out of the danger zone the vet called to say she could be picked up and should heal nicely. My husbands co-worker did not intend on paying the bill and said they could keep her. My husband then called me and said "There is the sweetest little kitty" I said stop right there and bring it home.

We have been blessed over the years with many cats and this one was no different. Little did we know that "stray" would be entering our lives shortly before when would have to say goodbye to one of our other kitty friends of 15 years due to cancer.

As the saying goes "When one door closes, another one opens".

T.T. has been with us just over two years now and as you can tell she is "pleasingly plump", healthy and happy. She plays indoors and out and since day one has never offered to leave. She loves my husband and just as he stated she is "one of the sweetest little kitty's" I believe she knows who saved her and we know she helped to save us from days of sadness and sorrow due to the loss of our other friend. We can't save them all, but if all of us could just save one we could be rewarded with a loving, loyal furry companion that brings joy and warmth to our soul.
