How to Remove the DVD Drive in a Gateway MX6920 Laptop
- 1). Ensure that the DVD drive does not have a disk in it. Shut down the laptop and turn it off. Disconnect the AC adapter and all other cables.
- 2). Flip the laptop over so that it is upside down. Slide the battery lock to the "Unlocked" position. Then slide and hold the battery release latch while you remove the battery.
- 3). Remove the keyboard screw with the Phillips screwdriver. The screw is located almost in the center of the bottom of the laptop and is labeled with a "K."
- 4). Use the screwdriver to loosen the six screws on the memory slot cover. The screws cannot be removed, so just loosen them. Remove the memory slot cover.
- 5). Remove the DVD drive retaining screw. The screw is located just to the right of a motherboard chip with a large "Intel" label printed on the top of it.
- 6). Push on the DVD bracket where the screw hole is located. Then, slide the DVD drive out of the bay.
