- 1). Restart the computer. Sometimes the CD drive will be stuck and restarting will either cause the drive to open or it will resume working normally.
- 2). Take a paper clip and straighten it out a bit so that you have one straight piece at least an inch long. Take the long piece and push it in the tiny hole beneath the CD drive. Push the clip until the CD pops open. This hole is made just in case the CD drive won't open.
- 3). Remove the CD drive if possible. Some Dell CD drives pop out by pushing a release button on the bottom of the laptop. This may help to get it open. Use a small flathead screwdriver to try to pry the door open but be careful not to push the screwdriver towards your body or with too much force in order to avoid injury. Wearing thick protective gloves is a good idea.
