World Record Largest Courgette

Courgette plants grow all year long and its fruits can be breed to grow to gigantic sizes. The previous record holder for the biggest marrow was 62 kilos. Recently, a new record breaking courgette has been introduced.

The current world's largest courgette is 65 kilos. This is 3 kilos larger than the previous record holder. It is also 52 inches in length. As testament to its size, it took 2 grown men to carry the marrow to a stand during the National Amateur Gardening Show held in Somerset.

The person responsible for growing this gigantic courgette is Ken Dale. He is 70 years old and a retired engineer at Masterfoods in King's Lynn. He grows his own food and has a hobby of breeding gigantic marrows. The record breaking marrow was grown in the UK.

There are a few factors which allowed him to grow the biggest courgette. According to him, there is no secret method other than experience. Of course there is the excellent soil of the marshland in The Wash. Add to it the excellent all year long weather in his area.

He has shared a few tips on how to properly grow courgettes. First and foremost, you must have passion for growing plants. Next there must be appropriate weather. The ideal weather is warm, humid and two hours of rain twice per week. The last but probably the most important is selecting the right seed for your soil and weather.

Just knowing that a feat such as this can be accomplished can give a surge of inspiration to gardeners and would-be-gardeners. Following these tips and being conscious of various factors will surely ensure the proper growth of your courgette plants. Who knows, you might just beat the current record!
