How do I Test 1.5 Volt Batteries With a Volt Meter?

104 6
    • 1). Turn on the voltmeter and set the scale to "Volts DC."

    • 2). Place the red (positive) probe on the positive terminal on the battery. The positive terminal typically looks like a metal bump at one end of the battery.

    • 3). Place the black (negative) probe on the negative terminal on the battery. The negative terminal is either flat (AAAA, AAA or AA cells) or may have a small dimple in the center of the terminal (C or D cells).

    • 4). Read the meter display. If the display shows fewer than 0.8 volts, the battery should be replaced.
