A fold-up sidewalk signs is a poster that can stand on its own. It folds up together and then comes apart like a triangle to rest on surfaces. These are commonly used as an advertisement or as a warning sign. You can create a simple homemade fold-up sign using poster paper, a heavy cardboard back board and a few other common household items.
Decide on the size for your fold-up sign. Most over the counter made signs are about 1-foot wide by 2-feet tall when folded - we'll use that size in this example. Acquire two pieces of poster paper sized at about 1 by 2 feet or larger (you can cut out any excess later).Draw or write your message on the poster paper. Black text on white paper will show the best. A yellow paper with black or red text would work for a portable signs. Leave about 2 inches of blank space at the top and bottom of each piece of paper. Coat the back of each poster paper sheet with a spray adhesive and then apply it to the mounting board. Allow it to dry for at least three hours.
Purchase two heavy cardboard mounting boards that are sized at about 1 by 2 feet each to match the poster paper. Use a box cutter to cut it to size if necessary. It's okay if the mounting board and paper is larger or smaller.
Cut 2 inches out from the middle bottom of each cardboard mount with your box cutter so that it looks like the board has two feet on the ends, each about an inch wide and 2 inches tall.
Place rubber tips, one inch wide or more each, on the €feet€ of each mounting board. These rubber tips are usually used for the bottoms of chairs and will help keep the folding sign in place when it is standing up.
Punch two holes at the top of each mounting board. When you place the mounting boards up against each other, back to back so that the poster sides show, both sets of holes should line up. Keep the mounting boards together and insert two small shower curtain rings through the holes so that the two signs are now connected. Snap the shower rings into place. You can now open the fold-up sign and close it back up when you are done. Test the sign to assure that it stands up on its own.
