Skiing on Film

So you've decided to spend Christmas on a ski holiday, and after a long day on the piste you've settled down in front of the fire to relax in your chalet.
La Tania is one of the world's premier destinations for skiing - but there are plenty of things to do while you're not on the slopes.
One of these is to treat yourself to an early Christmas present, and unwind with a film about - you guessed it, skiing! Not only will you be able to admire top skiers in several great movies, but you might just find your enthusiasm at a peak for the slopes the next day.
Here are a few of our favourite skiing films to see while you're staying at La Tania.
Steep A truly mesmerising documentary, 'Steep' features plenty of information on the techniques of extreme skiing, but also delves into the psychology and drives of the adrenaline-hooked athletes involved.
The film features a number of skiers undertaking astonishing runs down dangerous slopes, and provides an insight into the hair-raising world of the extreme skier.
You may be tempted to begin your own extreme skiing career while you're in your chalet; La Tania, however, doesn't quite have the insanely dangerous slopes necessary.
Among the subjects of the documentary are Bill Briggs, famous for skiing from the top of Grand Teton in Jackson Hole, Wyoming in 1971, and Doug Coombs, two-times winner of the World Extreme Skiing Championship.
Re:Session Produced by famous ski film company Teton Gravity Research, 'Re:Session' can definitely provide a view of global skiing - the action of the film includes skiing in Alagna (in one of Italy's deepest seasons on record), Poland, Colorado, Utah, and even Alaska.
It's definitely a must-see film, especially while you're enjoying a stay in a ski chalet.
La Tania may not seem quite as intimidating to novice skiers after they've seen the varied terrain and sometimes challenging conditions in 'Re:Session'.
Anomaly Another film from Teton Gravity Research, 'Anomaly' contains over three hours of footage focusing not on the skiing climate or conditions, but on the abilities of some of the top skiers and snowboarders in the world as they push themselves to their limits through challenges such as surviving a world-record 25 storey free fall, or adapting to the dynamic mountain terrain of Japan.
While it may seem a world away from a chalet in La Tania, you may just be inspired to push yourself a little further after watching it, and try out a slope that'll test your own limits (though thankfully not to such an extreme as some of the challenges in the film).
There's Something About McConkey Following legendary skier Shane McConkey through some spectacular ski footage (much of which had to be filmed by helicopter), 'There's Something About McConkey' is a tribute to one of the most innovative skiers of the 90's.
For those spending their holidays on the slopes and in a chalet, La Tania boasts enough diverse pistes to keep most skiers happy - but seeing the variety of challenging slopes McConkley has skied in his career really does put this famous skier in a league of his own, and makes for a fantastic film to enjoy.
