Tomatoes are every gardener favorite plant.
However it's not always easy to grow perfect tomatoes.
Tomatoes are at high risk of diseases and also attract unwanted pests.
Sometime the situation gets quite devastating as your favorite tomatoes wilt.
There are many reasons for tomato wilt.
Wilt is quite fatal for tomatoes.
It happens slowly and gradually and tomato leaves, stem, shoots and fruit everything collapse.
This situation gets heartbreaking when you find tomato wilt at latter stage.
I love growing tomatoes in my garden.
Few months ago my tomatoes suffer worst tomato wilt attack.
There were six reasons for my tomatoes to be wilted.
The first 2 causes of tomato wilt are pretty common but worth to be discussed.
These two factors are excess and lack of watering.
Generally tomatoes wilt due to over watering, leaves, stem, shoots and fruit die due to over watering.
It's commonly understood that dehydration kills the plant but excess watering also destroys tomato plants.
Tomatoes plants that remain in water quickly wilt due to extra moisture.
Leaves, stem and shoots start to crack and collapse due to over watering.
If the situation continues tomatoes wilt and die quickly.
Moreover saturated soil affects their growth, so it's recommended to plant your tomatoes in perfect drained planters and containers.
Third common reason for tomato wilt is triggered by a bacterial infection.
Many gardeners describe it's symptoms as someone had poured hot water on their tomato plants.
These gardeners identify these signs as their plants were absolutely fine one day and next day completely wilted.
These harmful bacteria virtually block the water intake of tomato plants and make them dehydrated over night.
You can easily identify bacterial wilt in your plant by doing a simple test.
Initially take out the plant from soil, pour some water over stem and roots.
Then cut the plant at the lower end, this cut must be four inch in length.
Now have a jar filled with water and put the stem section in water.
If the bottom end releases some milky ooze then your plants have tomato wilt.
The bacterial discharge is nearly translucent, but you can easily notice that at the bottom of affected plant.
After discovering tomato wilt in your plats, unfortunately you can not do much accept destroy wilted plants.
Avoid further planting in the affected area.
It is recommended to grow your tomatoes in containers and planter units.
In this way tomatoes will have fewer chances of infection and pests.
