How to Preserve Chenille Bedspreads
- 1). Wash your chenille bedspread by hand. Fill up your bathtub with warm water and a cap full of Woolite laundry detergent. Gently wash the fabric by squeezing it slowly in the soapy water.
- 2). Let the dirty water out of the tub. Refill your bathtub with warm water. Gently aggitate the fabric to remove the detergent, using your hand and gently squeezing. Allow the water to pass through the fabric by swirling it around.
- 3). Let the water out and fill up the tub a final time. Let the bedspread soak in the warm water for a few minutes. Drain out the water and wring out the bedspread very slowly. If you find it is still a little soapy, run water on top of the bedspread for a few more minutes. Let the water run down until it runs clear and free from suds.
- 4). Push the water out by folding the bedspread in half. Fold that half in half and push down. Push down as you fold that half in half. Keep folding and pushing down as you are "squeezing" out the water without damaging the fabric.
- 5). After you have squeezed out as much water as possible, place the bedspread in the dryer. Toss in some dryer sheets and turn the dryer on low. To avoid using a dryer, simply lay the bedspread out flat on a clean floor and let it dry overnight.
- 6). Take your bedspread to the dry cleaners if you are nervous to wash it yourself. Give your dry cleaner any specific instructions if you are allergic to any chemicals, or ask if they have organic cleaning products available.
