How to Make a Mesh Bridal Comb
- 1). Measure the desired length of your veil, starting from the place on your head where you plan to position the comb. Trace experimental patterns on tissue paper, which drapes like mesh, until you find the perfect shape and size.
- 2). Cut the mesh with scissors to the length you chose, or double the length to create a two-layered veil. Lay your tissue-paper pattern over the mesh, and pin it in place. Fold the pattern and mesh in half lengthwise.
- 3). Cut through both layers of the mesh along the pattern. Use a rotary cutter for smoothly rounded edges.
- 4). Hem the mesh, starting and ending at the top. For a simple, weightless look, do a rolled edge. For a more decorative finish, sew on a satin or lace trim.
- 5). Lay the material flat. Sew or glue on any embellishments. Let the glue dry completely.
- 6). Gather the top of the veil. Sew gathering stitches at 4 mm stitch length. Gather the mesh to the width of the comb.
- 7). Align the top of the mesh with the front of the top of the comb, so the mesh hangs in the direction of the comb's teeth. Whipstitch the mesh to the top of the comb by stitching between the teeth. Trim off the excess mesh from the top.
- 8). Decorate the comb with embellishments such as silk flowers, rhinestones or seed pearls.
