Last year's Blue Metropolis Montreal International Literary Festival hosted close to 200 activities with 350 participants. Expect more of the same in 2009 with presentations in French, English, Italian, Spanish, Hungarian, even Urdu!


The Blue Metropolis, or Blue Met, offers a series of activities, workshops and regular features, providing a literary hub to the general public, industry professionals as well as Montreal's youth: five days to rub shoulders with your favorite authors, photographers, storytellers, illustrators, publishers and literary professionals of all sorts from across the globe.

Meet Your Favorite Authors
Participating authors' books are on sale in the Blue Metropolis Bookstore at the Delta Hotel in Les Courants Room, mezzanine level. Authors generally go to the Blue Metropolis Bookstore for book signings right after their scheduled events and this is your best bet at catching your favorites in person.

DAY 1: Top Picks for Wednesday - April 22nd, 2009

4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Readings in the Afternoon: Giles Blunt
Author Giles Blunt reads from his latest novel Breaking Lorca and discusses the resounding themes of torture, cruelty and courage.

Opening Night
A.S. Byatt will be presented this year's 2009 Blue Metropolis International Literary Grand Prix Award. Byatt's works include the more recent Little Black Book of Stories and The Children's Book and screen-adapted Angels & Insects and Possession.

Mémoires: A Roundtable
