Make an Electromagnet and Switch

• 1). Take your piece of corrugated cardboard, 2 paper fasteners, paper clip and wire. Cut about 1 foot of wire. Strip about ½ to 1 inch off both ends of the wire. Attach one end of the wire to one battery terminal. Attach the other end around one of the paper fasteners. Slip the paper clip through this fastener. Push the fastener through the cardboard.
  
  
• 2). Take the rest of the wire. Strip ½ to 1 inch from both ends of the wire. Attach one end to the other paper clip. Push this paper clip through the corrugated cardboard so that when the paper clip is horizontal, they connect.
  
  
• 3). Wrap the wire around the tube, leaving space on either end so that you can take the tube out after wrapping. Make a coil almost as long as the iron bolt.
  
  
• 4). Attach the other end of the wire to the second terminal on the battery.
  
  

Make a Doorbell

• 1). Place the iron bolt at one end of the coil.
  
  
• 2). Connect the paper clip to both paper fasteners. This will complete the circuit, and electricity will run through the wires, creating an electromagnetic current.
  
  
• 3). Check that the iron bolt is being sucked through the coil. Place an aluminum chime near but not touching the other end of the coil. When the bolt is sucked through, it will hit the chime.
