    Abbott House

    • Abbott House was founded in 1963 as a social service organization. Their original mission was to provide services for neglected, abused and abandoned children. In 1992 the organization expanded their services to serve the needs of developmentally disabled children and adults. As of August 2010, Abbott House was operating 15 residential homes in Westchester, Rockland, Shrub Oak and the Bronx in New York. These residential programs provide around-the-clock care and housing for residents with moderate to severe developmental disabilities. Residents participate in the Special Olympics. Recreational activities also include ski trips, summer vacations and fashion and talent shows.

    Evelyn Douglin Center

    • Evelyn Douglin Centers provide residential programs for Medicaid-eligible, developmentally disabled individuals. Residents live in comfortable homes with supportive staff. The centers provide residents with day habilitation services designed to develop skills and increase independence. Residents learn money management, writing, academics, problem solving, decision making and independent living skills that help them become more self-reliant.

    Community Resource Center for the Developmentally Disabled

    • The Community Resource Center for the Developmentally Disabled opened its first residence in 1976. It now operates nine community-based residential programs, providing 24-hour habilitation services and care to over 70 mentally and developmentally disabled adults. Care, service, habilitation and recreation and social activities are geared toward the abilities of the consumers. The center's residences are located in the Bronx, Manhattan and Yonkers in New York.

    The Adirondack Arc

    • The Adirondack Arc provides home environments for developmentally disabled individuals. Through this program, people have the opportunity to lives in homes and apartments with the level of assistance and support they need. As of 2010, Adirondack Arc has been supporting homes and apartments for 15 years. Most homes generally have no more than three residents. In most cases, people can chose with whom they will live. The Arc develops a personalized plan for each of these people to help them become as self-reliant and active in the community as possible.

    Independent Group Home Living Program, Inc.

    • The Independent Group Home Living Program, based in Manorville, New York, operates several community-based residential homes. Each residence is home to up to 12 men and women and a staff of trained professionals. Residents participate in household chores, and are encouraged to care for their own personal grooming needs and to develop skills for independent living. Specially designed homes for non-ambulatory residents are designed to accommodate mobility and are constructed to provide maximum safety.
