How to Make a Virtual CD-ROM Drive on the Hard Drive
- 1). Navigate to a virtual CD-ROM program download page (see Resources for links to two such programs).
- 2). Click the download link for the program of your choice and save the executable (.exe) file to your hard drive via the on-screen prompts.
- 3). Launch the file once it has finished downloading. Follow the instructions on-screen to begin the automated installation process.
- 4). Restart your computer once the process is finished. When your computer reboots, an icon pertaining to the virtual CD-ROM program will be in your Windows yaskbar.
- 5). Right-click the program icon. A pop-up menu appears. Depending on the program you installed, you will either see a "Virtual Devices" or "Virtual CD/DVD-ROM" option. Move your mouse over this option to bring up another pop-out menu. This new menu has a virtual CD/DVD drive in it.
- 6). Move your mouse over the drive letter for the virtual CD/DVD-ROM drive, then select "Mount" from the next pop-out menu. You can now locate and mount your CD/DVD-ROM image file.
