Don"t Worry - New Jobs Are on the Way

Over the past several weeks, the president-elect has been talking about a financial stimulus package to help the economy get back on its feet.
He recently revealed a key element of this package, a massive undertaking of the federal government the form of a public works program that will rival the construction of the interstate highway system back in the 50s.
The thinking is pretty simple-a total investment of approximately $140 billion would be used to repair this crumbling infrastructure of roads, schools, and government buildings, thereby creating jobs for millions of people.
Additionally, these buildings will be retrofitted for energy efficiency, thereby reducing energy costs and in theory making us more competitive on the world stage.
For people engaged in the building trades, this might well provide salvation-when and if it ever gets started.
However if you know nothing about construction, or are not affiliated in any way with construction related activities, it's unclear as to what benefit you will receive from this new program.
This is not to diminish the clear thinking and a resolve that the new president elect is showing as he faces what is arguably the worst financial disaster in our history.
However, it is not a panacea for all that ails us, and if you feel that you are in jeopardy of losing your job and losing your income now, to wait for the economic stimulus package to take a whole hold would be foolhardy.
The world in which we live is becoming more challenging almost overnight.
In November 2008, the American economy lost over 500,000 jobs, driving unemployment to a 14-year high of almost 7%.
The loss of jobs has a trickle-down effect on the economy so even if you are self-employed, you are likely to see reduction in sales as disposable income declines.
Obviously these are bleak times, and require decisive action-not only on the part of the federal government, but on the part of each and every one of us ourselves.
The scope and scale of these times demand an out-of-the-box solution, because taking temporary steps to try to improve your present situation will do little to help you over the long run.
One possible approach would be to implement a home based business using the Internet as a marketplace and a service delivery platform.
Even if you don't have the skills and experience to do this, there are plenty of opportunities available today that provide turnkey training and support for entrepreneurs who want to create their own financial security.
Yes, new jobs are on their way.
But if you plan to get in line and wait for one, it may be already too late.
