How to Keep Coffee From Tasting Bitter
- 1). Grind your medium roasted coffee beans immediately before brewing. This ensures freshness and can eliminate bitterness. Medium roasted beans have an increased quantity of acid compared to dark roasted beans, which actually lowers overall bitterness. Coarsely-ground beans can also prevent acidity.
- 2). Add the right amount of coffee. People often add too little, which can increase bitterness. Read the instructions on the package of coffee beans. Standard instructions indicate that one tablespoon of grounds should be added for each cup of water.
- 3). Heat your water prior to adding it to the coffee maker, but avoid boiling the water, as this will burn the beans and cause bitterness when brewed. It is best to heat the water to 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
