How to Display U.S. & State Flags on a Pole
- 1). Make sure that the United States flag is larger than or equal to the state flag in size. The state flag should never be bigger than the American flag.
- 2). Hoist the United States flag first when raising the flags.
- 3). Display the United States flag above the state flag if they are to be hung on the same pole. If the flags are displayed on adjacent poles, the United States flag should be to the state flag's right. If there are three or more flags on display, the United States flag should be in the center. Even on separate flag poles, no other flag should fly higher than the United States flag.
- 4). Display both flags at half mast when the United States flag is at half mast. In this position, the United States flag should still be higher on the flagpole than adjacent flags and must be above any other flags on the same flagpole.
- 5). Lower the American flag last.
