Snake Repellent

• Many garden centers sell snake repellents that you can apply around your house to keep the snakes away. Some of these products contain natural ingredients, so they're safe to use if you have children or pets. Spray or sprinkle this repellent around the foundation of your house to deter the snakes from getting too close. If you want to keep the snakes further away, create a perimeter around your house using the repellent, and remember to re-apply it every 3 weeks, or as directed on the bottle.
  
  

Patio

• If you have tall grass right up against your house, you may frequently have snakes. To keep snakes away, build a patio around one or two sides of your house. The snakes will rarely venture onto the patio slabs, and even if they stay in your garden or yard, they'll be away from your house.
  
  

Short Grass

• Keep your lawn short by mowing it regularly. Snakes prefer tall grass in which to hide while they stalk their prey. When the grass is short, they aren't able to easily conceal themselves, meaning they're susceptible to being caught by a bird of prey. Even if you keep the main areas of your grass short, make sure to trim the edges around your house and along fences if the grass is taller in these locations.
  
  

Rodent Traps

• Snakes are likely frequenting the area around your house because there's plenty to eat. Depending on the variety of snakes, they may be dining on small rodents such as mice, chipmunks and squirrels. If you live in an area with plenty of these rodents, and have snakes that are big enough to eat them, place rodent traps around your house; humane traps work best; relocate the critter, and the snakes will follow. If you can reduce or relocate the rodent population, the snakes will eventually relocate to an area with more to eat.
