    • 1). Give your cat antioxidant supplements. Antioxidants neutralize harmful oxygen molecules in the body that can weaken the immune system. One powerful antioxidant is wheat sprouts; its derivatives are contained in the product Feline Support, along with other antioxidants. It is available for purchase online (See Resources.) Give your cat one supplement per day. Many pets will be happy to eat them as a treat; other cats will need them crushed in their food to mask the taste.

    • 2). Give the cat herbs. An herb called astragalus gives the immune system a long-term boost. Get tinctures from the health-food store that are made with glycerin instead of alcohol (which should not be given long-term). Give cats four drops of the tincture twice per day.

    • 3). Make sure your pet follows good nutrition. Pet stores carry food brands like Innova and Solid Gold that are free from preservatives and additives . Many vets recommend a homemade diet consisting of 1/2 meat, 1/4 raw veggies and 1/4 cooked carbohydrates. But if this is not practical for your household, invest in your cat's long-term health by buying the highest-quality food you can find.

    • 4). Give your cat natural enzymes to improve its digestion. Add a raw egg yolk once a week and 1 tsp. of yogurt (non-flavored, with active or live cultures). Commercially prepared enzyme supplements like Prozyme and FloraZyme are available online and in some pet stores. These should be administered per the package directions.

    • 5). Keep the cat indoors. Cats with FIV are vulnerable to viruses and other germs, not to mention posing an infection hazard to other cats they may encounter outdoors.
