The Wisdom of Amenemope is Still with Us Today

Have you ever considered where all the principles and ideals that you and your civilization hold so dear originally came from? Think about our social programs in the United States and how we make sure that people who cannot provide for themselves are taken care of from the excess flows of our nation? Consider what we as citizens feel are priorities that we entrust our government to take care of.
Have you ever considered where these ideas come from? Most of us were born into our society and civilization and taught that this is the way things work and we are told that it is the fair thing to do.
Humans have enough empathy to understand such things and thus these ideas are widely accepted and committed to our belief systems.
But where did they come from? You might be surprised that ancient text has been recovered from as far a back as 1400 BC and in one text called "The Wisdom of Amenemope" it states such things as;
  • Do Not Rob the Poor
  • Help the Elderly
  • Becoming Haughty
  • Putting People at Risk
  • Reciprocal Responses to Evil are Unwise
  • Respect for Another's Property
Read all those again and think about it.
It is amazing how dear some of these principles are to us today.
They make sense to us and to think that all this was given to us and has survived over time in our civilization so well.
Amazing indeed.
