Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela - His Day Is Done
The beloved homeland of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela born 18 July 1918 Qunu, near Umtata, transcends their commemorations to Madiba who passed on at the age of 95 at his home in Johannesburg, South Africa on December 5 2013.
Today the spirit of the man who inspired others with his leadership, devotion to humanity and humanitarian causes will live on forever whilst his body will be laid to rest.
The nation will salute their comrade, colleague and friend for the struggles and sacrifices he endured for their freedom.
There has never in our life time been a leader who understood the anguish, deprivation, suffering and discrimination of his people better then Madiba.
Whilst leading the fight against apartheid he sacrificed his youth and private life incarcerated for nearly three decades for forming Umkhonto we Sizwe translated has "Spear of the Nation.
" The Rivonia Trial was the beginning and the end of apartheid because Madiba spoke the truth during his trial when he said.
"During my lifetime I have dedicated myself to this struggle of the African people.
I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination.
I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities.
It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve.
But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.
" - Nelson Mandela speaking at the dock of the court, 20 April 1964 For that statement the authorities replied with a sentence of twenty seven years and eight months of which 18 years was spent in Robben Island.
This can only emphasis how sometimes the law in the eyes of man can be an ass.
When a courageous voice for justice with a moral emphasis can be taken away and denied liberty because those of authority know little of dignity, love or even compassion.
However the Black Pimpernel today will be a tribute to all dignitaries and many people from all nations, religions, the young and old will be saying their prayers of contrition for a man who learnt how to grow above his enemies.
We can only remember his vision when embracing adversaries and showing us reconciliation.
For the world has lost a leader with ideals that were true, courageous and influential.
A man who leaves us with the grace and humour to move forward and recognise our own imperfections before we look to others for theirs.
To have the resilience to defeat fear and move forward not with hate but peace and love within our hearts.
We can continue on with accepting the plight of others or we can stand up against inequality, poverty and hunger.
How are we to continue on giving a blind eye to violence, racism or hatred and then look to our children and ask forgiveness.
I am truly blessed to have recognised the value of life but with all its bitterness and hatred for things of little significance in comparison to the time we have on this earth there is nothing more comforting then perseverance for the greater good.
Madiba no doubt is the beacon for us all to follow in times of hardship, pain and sorrow.
For true democracy we stand together regardless of white or black, north or south, developing or developed, educated or uneducated, rich or poor, healthy or ill we are all living under the same clouds, stars, sun and moon and therefore togetherness in spirit will bring a closing to our stupidity and an opening towards unity.
