How to Replace the Fan on an Asus V60
- 1). Purchase a replacement fan, which should measure 92 by 92 by 25 mm.
- 2). Turn the power off to the computer and unplug the cord. Open the case and ground yourself by touching the metal chassis or connecting an antistatic wristband. Locate the V60 heat sink, which will be the metallic cube sitting up from the motherboard.
- 3). Remove the four screws on the top of the heat sink, using a Phillips screwdriver, and remove the top panel.
- 4). Unplug the wire from the motherboard that connects to the fan inside the V60. Remember the location of the motherboard's CPU fan connector.
- 5). Slide the fan and wire straight out of the heat sink, noting the direction it faced. On one of the sides of the fan, there should be an arrow showing the direction of airflow. Use that arrow as a reference.
- 6). Insert the new fan using the same orientation as the old one. Be careful to fish the wire through the same path the old wire took.
- 7). Plug the wire into the motherboard's CPU fan connector.
- 8). Secure the top panel of the heat sink using the four screws. Reattach the power cable to the case and boot the computer to test the fan. When satisfied it works properly, close the case.
