Bird Baths Attract Garden Birds

103 3
Bird baths are decorative and functional ornaments to have in your garden.
Not only are they beautiful but birds will enjoy their reliable and much needed source of water all year-round.
A bird bath can make your garden look very inviting and will add to a comfortable atmosphere.
Placing one close to your home will allow you to enjoy the many sounds the birds provide but too close and the birds may be disturbed too often to fully enjoy it.
Once you have it in a position where you can see it and enjoy it as much as the birds do you'll be able to get to know all the types of bird in your local area.
The most frequent visitors to UK gardens are usually house sparrows, wood pigeons, blackbirds and starlings but the potential list of visitors is very long and varies depending on the region you live in.
There are a few things to look out for when purchasing a bird bath.
A bird bath that rests on a pedestal can be put just about anywhere in your garden.
It should have a sturdy bottom to prevent it from tipping and it is very important to have it high enough off the ground so that animals can't get to it easily.
This keeps the birds safe while they are enjoying drinking and cleaning themselves.
Maintenance It is also important to clean out the bath and fill it with fresh water as often as possible.
Algae grows quickly and bird baths will get dirty just from everyday wear and tear from the birds and the weather.
When cleaning, use a stiff brush and always drain all of the water out and put clean water back in.
Every couple of months you will also need to clean it with some bleach.
Remember when you do this to make sure you don't leave the bleach unattended or uncovered in a place the birds can get at it and be mindful to thoroughly rinse any traces of bleach off of it before refilling with water.
Clean water keeps the birds healthy and attracts them to your bird bath versus another one somewhere else.
You should make sure that it is always filled to the top with water, which allows the birds to stand on the edge of the bird bath and easily get a drink and provide enough water for them to get in and bathe.
When the cold season comes, birds will be depending on that water source from you, so keep an eye out for it freezing over.
Having a bird bath is a very entertaining pastime and something you won't want to be without once you have one.
