How to Make Ceramic Tile Coasters
- 1). First choose tile from a hardware store. Most coaster sets come in sets of four but you can make more if you would like. Use any color you want. The options are endless.
- 2). Choose a stencil that you would like to paint on the top of the paper. I have used the gift recipients last name initial in different fonts but you can stencil anything. You can even paint a picture freehand if you want to make it even more personal. Choose a color of paint that will show up on the color of paper you have chosen.
- 3). Cut a square out of scrapbook paper that is slightly smaller than the tile. Stencil the letter on the paper. Mod Podge the paper to the tile by sponging Mod Podge on the tile and then on top of the paper lightly after you place it on the tile. Smooth out any bubbles that may occur during drying, but be careful not to let the paper stick to your finger or it will stick and tear a hole. If you need to smooth out a bubble and the paper is almost dry, re-apply glue to the area and then smooth the bubble.
- 4). Once the glue has dried you will need to apply spray sealant over the top of the tile in several coats so that using the coaster will not case damage to the paper. Allow each coat to dry before adding another. Spray sealant can usually be found at a hobby store in the same aisle as the Mod Podge. If not ask a sales associate to help with locating the sealant.
- 5). Finally cut felt pieces to fit the bottom of your tile coaster. The piece does not have to be as big as the tile but making it fit close to the edge is best for keeping it level. Use hot glue to attach the felt to the tile.
- 6). Place your finished coasters in small, decorative boxes the size of the coasters and wrap with ribbon or unique paper and your gift is complete.
