Fashion Adopted by the Elite Classes As a Tragedy for Lower Middle Class
Fashion adopted by the elite classes as a tragedy for lower middle class
In the present twentieth century, we encounter a rapid change in almost everything every day. Same is the case with the fashion in Pakistan. It is so quick in Pakistan that after every two to three years new trends in dressings and jewelry come on the screen to follow. The elite class visits the markets to enjoy shopping and spends huge amount of money on current fashionable goods irrespective of the fact those fashionable items are their needs or not.
But for the lower class it is a kind of a nightmare. They just cannot think of adopting such a big change so soon. However, they have a great desire and longing to follow the latest trend in their hearts. When their tight budget does not allow them to do that, most of them become restless and aggressive. To cool their mind, some go for a window shopping everyday that by contrast increase their anger rather than suppressing and controlling them. So their mood is worse when they come back from window shopping to their homes.
In Pakistan, fashion is taken as a tool to measure the class. The more fashionable you are, the richer family you belong. We can easily discriminate between low and high class through fashion statistics. A girl from a high class would be wearing shirts, jeans, bracelets, hand bag, heels, make up, goggles, perfumes, an expensive wristwatch, of the latest trends and the highest price. She might be having supernatural makeup, very expensive, unique and up to date.
By contrast, a woman of lower class would be wearing a horrifying print of Shalwar Kameez with a perspired body, a rough pair of shoes, a simple purse to keep coins inside to have a shopping of vegetables and bread, and a basket of rubbish fruits that she collected from dust bins and wasted food corners.
Besides all that, women on their marriages go beyond the luxury limits in following the fashion in almost everything. They usually spend more than one Lac on a simple wedding function. The expenditures in this regard involve bride's dress, shoes, makeup, hair style, facial, jewelry, and other related items. These are the items that are considered excluded from the dowery. The women who cannot afford such a luxury, feel inferiority- complex and go into the deep depression and anxiety.
To conclude, there should not be any class distinction in any country on any basis. It gives false status to upper class and discourages the lower middle class, thus widens the gap between the two. As far as fashion is concerned, it should be accessible to every class and should not be used for status symbol for any class. Fashion is not evil in itself rather it is a source of pleasure for all women who want to look good, yet it has to be under some limits and within reach of every class of the society.
Thanks
