How Does a Paper Fan Work?
- Various sizes and colors
A paper fan is also known as a "hand fan" because the fan works by using a hand motion. The perspiration on the body slowly evaporates with continuous back-and-forth fanning that causes a cooling effect. The faster the motion of the fan, the cooler the body will feel. Those highly decorated fans that are set on a frame with inserts of onion paper can easily be closed when not in use. They are ornamental as well as serviceable and can be attached to a belt or sash of an outfit to enhance the look. - Hand fans on a stick
Paper fans can be made out of any slightly firm paper or a small menu or booklet that you might have handy when you find yourself in a warm and stuffy room. While an ornamental fan might be more decorative and eye-catching, it does not work much better than a plain sheet of cardboard for creating air movement for cooling. Hand fans also are made by using hard board attached to a wooden stick. They are not as flexible as other types of paper fans, and they might require more effort to create a breeze, but they easily fit into a purse and can be used where a fan is needed. These stick paper fans can be used for keeping cool, keeping bugs away or to swat a fly. - While the constant fanning motion of any type of paper fan will make the skin feel cooler, the energy expended by the body motion itself by fanning can cause you to sweat even more and make you feel warmer. A paper fan will not make a room cooler but will cool only the limited area being fanned.
