Citizen Legislators - At Least That Was Once the Grand Plan

103 10
You know, those men we hold in high self-esteem believes that the United States of America ought to have citizen legislators.
That makes a lot of sense and they believed this for a reason.
Not long ago, I got into an interesting conversation about this with an acquaintance and he indicated that "The folks who 'run' things now are completely out of touch with reality and have no concept of what working for a living would be like," and I thought to myself, you know, I bet more than 75% of the people in this country believe that to be the case.
Indeed, this is a common charge - folks are pretty upset right now, judging by the polls on certain issues, the media's recent shift, and "the tea party" folks who have every right to be a little ticked off.
Now then, is it really that our legislators are out of touch with reality? I mean, sometimes I wonder if they are out of touch, don't care, or are losing at trying to play both games simultaneously; i.
e.
collect war chest monies for future office contests, keep the people happy (who are so unbelievably demanding and feel entitled), and still try to make it all work.
Some blame the politicians, some blame the system, but it appears that the system is at issue, and it corrupts even the best folks in about 18-months or less during their stint in Washington DC.
Not that I care to make excuses for politicians, as they are quite good at excusing their selves for most anything they do these days.
It's just that the system is not working when they don't read the bills before voting and the lobbyists are swarming like flies on (well, you know what I wanted to say).
Anyway, we are the greatest nation in the history of mankind right? Well, surely we can do better than this, in fact, it's pathetic, we are a great people, we are better than this, we are smarter than to stand for this malarkey, and every politicians who goes to Washington does so under the guise that they will do what's right, and yet, it's just more of the same, and often from both sides of the isle, which to me seems rather blurred most of the time.
Come on America, think about it.
We deserve more, and it's just not working, enough frustration, pessimism, cynicism, and any other "ism" you want to throw in to this dialogue.
Fact is, if we can't do better than this, we don't deserve this great nation anyway.
Think on this.
