How to Connect a Web Camera to the Internet
- 1). Set up your webcam by inserting the CD-ROM that came with it into your computer's CD-ROM drive. It will ask if you wish to install the drivers and software. Click "Yes," and follow the installation instructions that appear on the screen.
- 2). Connect the webcam to your PC by inserting the USB cable into the USB port.
- 3). Launch the webcam software by going to the "Start Menu" and selecting the program. Once it is open, you should be able to see on the screen whatever your webcam is pointing at.
- 4). Find software that allows you to connect your webcam feed to the Internet. A few that you might wish to look at are HomeCamera.com, Broadcam or Cambrosia. Any of these programs will allow you to connect your camera's feed to the Internet. They can be free or cost up to $60.
- 5). Get HomeCamera.com. This program can be used as security software or just for fun. The main advantage is that it is free. Simply register on the site, download the software, and launch the application. Once it's on, you will need to configure your camera by naming it and then follow the instructions given to you by the installation wizard. Once you are done, you will be given a password-protected site where you can view the video feed from any computer, PDA or smartphone that has Internet access.
- 6). Get Broadcam. This software program costs $60. It can be used to stream live feeds and broadcast recorded videos. Once you've downloaded and installed the software, simply click on "Add" to find your video camera in the window. Click on it and the "Connect" button on the top toolbar. It's a simple program to use and has a variety of uses.
- 7). Try Cambrosia. This is software as well as a community of other people interested in video feeds. The program costs $50. The advantage of this software is that if you want to share your video feed with other people, it already has a built-in, worldwide audience of others who are interested in feeds. None of the other programs have this feature.
