103 11
A parasite is, by nature, something that feeds off of something else.
An internal feline parasite feeds off of the intestinal walls of your kitten or cat and if not recognized and treated can cause major health problems, sometimes resulting in death.
Parasites and cat worms are something that needs to be taken very seriously and treated as early as possible to ensure the health of your cat.
A feline parasite finds its way into your cat usually by way of something he or she eats or drinks.
When they come upon a bird or a mouse, or they eat something that may have been infected by some type parasite there is a likelihood that larvae can get lodged in their system.
This sounds far-fetched, but it happens very often.
All it takes is one.
Once the feline parasite grows inside your cat, it continues to feed on her intestinal wall, creating small cuts or wounds that continue to bleed.
This blood comes out in your cat's stool and this is the easiest and most common way to identify one of several types parasites.
The stool may be black or bloody, or look different than normal stool.
If you look closely, you may also see small eggs or even the worms themselves.
The outward signs of a parasite are a disinterest in food or visible pain after eating.
A cat may start to lose weight, start to lose fur, or the fur may become dull when it has always been shiny.
When this begins to happen, it means that the cat is probably already anemic from excessive loss of blood and vital nutrients.
For this reason it is important that these parasites are taken care of as soon as possible.
Remember, certain parasites that attack your cat can also attack you, so by treating your cat you may be saving yourself from them, too.
