After a period of ceaseless war, it appears that much-maligned Gaza Strip will be experiencing a relative calm in the coming weeks. That is, if the coming weeks will be truly focused on establishing peace between Israel and the Islamic organization Hamas.

Senior members of Hamas stated that they are open to finally ending the war with Israel, if the Gaza Strip will finally open to members of the international community. As many have already known, the conflict between Israel and Hamas has reached fever pitch in the past few weeks, and now, reconstruction is badly needed in the war-torn areas.

International community:According to Ghazi Amad, leader of Hamas, "We want to be part of the international community. I think Hamas has no interest now to increase the number of crises in Gaza or to challenge the world."
Well said words, and everyone is on tenterhooks on whether the crisis will finally end. Just a few days ago, the youth from both Gaza Strip and Israel have showed signs of wanting to go back to school, etc. The youth of both sides want normalcy again, something that might take longer to accomplish, given the fact that reconstruction is being hindered by red tape.

Foreign aid can be used for the reconstruction of Gaza City, however, the Israel government and Hamas do not wish to appear dependent on foreign aid. On a certain level, the two are on a stalemate on who was going to begin the reconstruction efforts. Areas like Gaza City require trucks of cement, pipes, concrete and materials for the rebuilding of electrical grids. The damage had been too large for small nonprofit organizations to handle. International aid is indeed required for the reparation efforts.

US intervention: Of course, the US is still present in the proceedings. There might be the possibility of a unified Palestinian government that might include slots for Hamas. However, as of the moment, US president Barack Obama is not yet willing to communicate directly with Hamas. As they is listed as a terrorist organization in the United States.
