How to Send Divorce Papers to Riker's Island
- 1). Package the divorce papers in packaging that is United States Postal Service approved such as a legal-size mailing envelope. The packaging sizes that are admissible to the New York City Department of Corrections are those that are 15 pounds or less and no more than 24 inches wide, 12 inches high and 24 inches deep.
- 2). Navigate to the New York City Department of Corrections Inmate Look-Up Service to find the appropriate mailing address for the prisoner to whom you want to send the divorce papers.
- 3). Write down the inmate's "Book and Case" number from the "Inmate Detail" page. Locate the facility link where the inmate is housed on the "Inmate Detail" page. Click on the link of the facility to obtain the mailing address. Write down the complete address.
- 4). Address the envelope or package with the inmate's full name and "Book and Case" number on the first line. Write "c/o" (care of) before writing the name of the facility and write the rest of the address as you would normally address a letter or package. For example:
John Lee Anybody #1234567890
c/o Any Prison Facility
9999 Any Street
Anytown, New York 12345
Affix the correct amount of postage to the package and mail it.
