104 3
    • 1). Collect bibliographic information as you research your article. For each source you intend to cite, you must know the author, title, publisher, date and place of publication. In the case of journal articles, you must also know the journal title, volume and issue number, as well as the page range on which the article appears.

    • 2). Insert references inro your article as you write. A normal APA reference consists of the name of the author, the date of the work and the page number of the reference. Place these data in parentheses after a statement that references the source.

    • 3). Read through your work, and record all the sources you've cited.

    • 4). List each source in your reference list at the end of the article. Entries should appear alphabetical on the list by the last name of the author. Each type of source has a specific reference format laid down by the Publication Manual of the APA. For instance, the APA reference style for a book is:

Author, A. A. (Year of publication). Title of work: Subtitle. Location: Publisher.

Italicize the title and subtitles of the book. Check the APA styles for other types of sources, and cite them appropriately.
