Republican Senators Use Crises in Iran For Their Own Agendas

Before I start this article, I will like to make it clear that I'm not loyal to either left or right wing propaganda.
I think that they both have an agenda and one of the best ways to accomplish set agenda is to point fingers at the other side.
While we the common masses get stuck in the middle.
Having said that, I think president Barack Obama's decision not to take sides is the right decision.
Iranians for the most part have always been hostile to the United States with good reasons.
The CIA and the British MI5 were very instrumental in ousting Iranian democratic elect leader Mohammed Mossadeq by staging a coup (operation Ajax) in 1953 in favor of the Shah who was friendly with the west.
The Iranians have never really forgiven us for that.
After revolting against the shah in 1979, we decided to let him in to the United States for cancer treatment.
The Iranians reacted by storming the U.
S.
embassy in Tehran and held 52 American diplomats captives for 444 days.
As if we had not done enough, we supported Iraq by giving them ammunition during the Iran-Iraq War which lasted 8 years.
During and after the Iran-Iraq war, Hezbolah an Iranian funded organization has consistently been involved in several anti-American attacks including the April 1983 United States Embassy bombing which killed 17 Americans, the 1983 Beirut barracks bombing which killed 241 U.
S.
peace keepers in Lebanon, and the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing.
On July 3rd 1988 towards the end of the Iran-Iraq War, the United States of America shot down an Iranian commercial flight in Iranian air space killing almost 300 civilians including 66 children.
While the U.
S.
government expressed regrets they have never formally apologized to the Iranian Government.
To top it all, the last 4 presidents Ronald Regain, George H Bush, Bill Clinton and George W.
Bush imposed and maintained economic sanctions on Iran.
Giving our relationship and history with Iran for the past 30 years the President's decision not to take sides in this protest was a wise decision.
Most people, including republican Senator Lugar and Pat Buchanan who said "President Obama has it right...
He's behaving not as a politician but as President of the United States" agrees with Obama.
On the other side of that coin we have three other republican senators who have continuously shown their disapproval with the President.
This includes republican Senator John McCain who said "The president should speak out that this election is flawed, it is wrong, it's a deprivation of the Iranian people of their basic human rights.
He should speak out that this is a corrupt flawed sham of an election.
The Iranian people have been deprived of their rights.
We support them in this struggle against a repressive, oppressive regime and they should not be subjected to four more years of Ahmadinejad" Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss said, "We are a beacon of hope for freedom and democracy around the world and one thing we've always stood for is free and open elections...
For the United States President to be silent on this while other leaders are speaking out I think puts us in a position of well, we're just going to go along with whoever gets elected over there, that's just not right.
It's critically important that America speak with a loud and clear voice in support of free, open democratic elections.
" House Minority Whip Eric Cantor "America has a moral responsibility to stand up for these brave people, to defend human rights, and to condemn the violence and abuses by the regime in Tehran" While I agree on every one's right to free speech, it gets really frustrating when its clear that these Senators are taking these positions for no other reason but to go against the President.
Our history with Iran clearly shows that the Iranians will not welcome any kind of intervention from the west especially the U.
S.
and Britain.
But once again, dirty politics prevails.
Here we have 3 right wing Senators who for political reasons are trying to use the situation for their own personal agendas.
It is disgusting and shameful, I am particularly disappointed by McCain whom I have always regarded as the voice of reason in the Republican Party.
This latest outburst by him only makes me glad that he lost the presidential election.
I mean seriously, this is the same guy who said "Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran" all of a sudden he has developed a conscience for the Iranians.
The hypocrisy that continues to show in our politics is mind boggling.
We are suddenly concerned for the Iranian people after 30 straight years of hostility, or is it for Mir Hossein Mousavi? The same Prime Minister against whom our policies were directed.
What is happening in Iran today is sad, but history tells us that while we might be sympathetic to their plight our best course of action is to stay as far away from the situation as we possibly can.
