How to Read an Optical Micrometer
- 1). Read the largest number on the stationary optical micrometer sleeve that is not covered by the rotating thimble.
- 2). Multiply the number by 0.001 and record the result for later use.
- 3). Count the number of gradations between the largest visible number on the micrometer sleeve and the edge of the rotating thimble.
- 4). Multiply the number of gradations you found by 0.0001 and record the result for later use.
- 5). Determine the number on the rotating thimble that aligns with the straight indicator line on the micrometer sleeve.
- 6). Multiply the number by 0.00001 and record the result for later use.
- 7). Add the three values recorded in the previous steps.
