More on Like, Want and Need
Do you like the shopping channel? Are you broke? Is there a connection, you bet.
What is it, well read on and I am going to give you another key to becoming debt free and wealthy.
Many of you know I have a thing about advertising.
Basically there is more manipulation going on than you can imagine.
The precision with which a good ad agency can get you to buy something is very impressive.
Their Key is to get you excited and motivated, as an object in motion tends to stay in motion.
In other words you go buy stuff.
Now the Key to becoming debt free is to spend less than you make.
One of these two Keys opens a door to perpetual poverty and the other to a life of your dreams, which one do you want? Like all worth while things there is a bit of work involved to becoming rich.
Let us talk about understanding your like, want and need thoughts.
What is a like? I would like an ice cream.
Now will you die if you do not get an ice cream? I think you will survive without it.
I want a new chain saw.
Are you a logger, no.
Do you have a chain saw now? Yes but it is a couple of years old and a new one would just be better.
Can you tell me how it would be better? Well it would cut a little better and heck it just is better.
The chainsaw you have now does it work? Yes.
You get the idea on this, you do not need a new one.
Now a need is different.
I need a new tire for my car.
Why? The one I have now blew up and can not be fixed.
Done, you buy a tire.
I need a filling in my tooth, I need a place to sleep, and I need a textbook for school, as they do not have one in the library system.
I need something to eat.
There are lots of things we need.
The key is to determine if you like, want or need something.
I promise if you look, listen and feel your thoughts.
Most "needs" are like's and want's but have been sold to you as a need by an advertising agency.
You must develop a filter in your brain that looks at each purchase to decide which category it is in.
If you practice this for a couple of years (yep it takes a while to get good at this) this technique will save you more money than any other I know.
Once you identify which category the purchase is in, YOU decide what to do next.
If you would like an ice cream and you have some money in your "mad money" account then go get it.
If you do not have any extra throw away money this month then you do not get the ice cream and you can feel FANTASTIC that you are taking charge of you, your mind and getting closer to financial freedom.
Some may say what's the big deal it is a $3.
00 ice cream.
It is the same for a $50 thousand dollar car, or a $2 million dollar house.
If you can not do it on the small stuff you definitely can not do it on the big stuff.
An interesting story, I was told this in 1993 and thought the guy had an interesting point and I could do it.
In 1995 I had $7,500 dollars in my wallet to go buy a new watch.
Fate played a hand and got in the way of me buying that watch, as I was all ready to purchase it.
Later that night I remembered that speaker and realized I had to start applying this to the small, medium and large purchases.
Learn to identify if you like it, want it or need it and you will be one step closer to your dreams.
Be smart, be wealthy.
