Why You Should Love Your Wedding Party
How important is the wedding party to a bride and groom? Would they function well without their support? Since we are filled with wedding traditions and our culture dictates that we have them, I guess that we cannot fully go on without them. They have been part of the wedding celebrations and they have been contributing a lot when it comes to the preparations so it is just great that along the way of our history, we have included having groomsmen, bridesmaids, best man, and maid of honor around.
Such traditions have long been with us and it is so impossible not to see them as part of the wedding. They have been there helping couples preparing and sharing the great fun of the wedding itself. Now imagine not having the wedding party? For instance, do you know that in South Korea, although they follow Western weddings, they do not have any wedding party? The groom and the bride are the ones who will prepare for the event. The bride and groom will equally share the expenses of the wedding with the groom preparing the house and the bride pays for the furniture.
When it comes to the wedding itself, the bride and groom will handle everything. No bachelor party or bridal party. What they have is a co-ed party where most of their college friends unite in giving them one huge party to celebrate the coming union. No rehearsal dinner party because there is no one to rehearse with. Most wedding celebrations last for two hours to three hours maximum with the groom walking down the aisle first and then the bride walking second. The bride and the groom mostly wear western clothing with the groom wearing a tux and the bride wearing her bridal dress and beautiful wedding jewelry.
The wedding ceremony and reception site mostly happen in one place. They have wedding hall buildings that can accommodate to people getting married all at the same time. No need to search for popular reception sites because the reception area is just the same with the ceremony site. During the reception, the bride will change to another bridal dress and beautiful bridal jewelry set, which is their traditional clothing, Hanbok. At which point the bride and groom together with their elder ones will go to a private room in the reception area and the couple will pay respect to their elders by bowing while kneeling on the floor.
Although South Korean weddings are a mix of traditions, it is also good to know that we enjoy the luxury of people helping us out with the wedding. We enjoy our own traditions of having rehearsal dinners, bachelor parties, bridal parties, giving bridesmaids gifts, preparing wedding favors, and so on which makes western weddings really a great and anticipated event for many of us.
