How to Use Oak Leaves As Grass Mulch
- 1). Spread the oak leaves evenly on a ground area away from the newly seeded lawn. Run a lawnmower over them to chop them into pieces. Avoid using whole leaves as these tend to get matted and keep the water from reaching the plants below.
- 2). Rake the chopped leaves together and collect into a large garbage bag. Use the rake to spread the mulch over the newly seeded lawn at a depth of ½ to 2 inches.
- 3). Avoid applying mulch on very wet ground as this can lead to the growth of mold under the mulch. Replenish the layer of mulch as the layer gets thinner.
