How to Chop Food Like a Pro
- 1). Buy a good set of knives. CUTCO has great knives covered by a lifetime warranty. Henckel is also known for producing quality knives. Learn how to sharpen them so you can do it as needed.
- 2). Start out with a piece of celery, as celery is easy to chop. Hold the food with your left hand (assuming you chop food with your right hand) and cut it in half lengthwise. Put one half aside for now.
- 3). Place one halved piece of celery on the cutting board horizontally. Turn your left arm so your forearm is parallel with your chest. Place your index finger and ring finger on either side of the celery. Your middle finger will stabilize the celery on top, your thumb will sit at the "butt" of the celery, and you use your pinky for balance.
- 4). Hold your knife in your right hand. Place the tip of your knife onto the cutting board. When you chop skinny foods like vegetables, you'll rock the knife up and down, keeping the tip of the knife in contact with the cutting board.
- 5). Push the celery with your thumb from where it's located at the back end of the celery. As you chop, slowly push the food toward the knife to cut it. Hold your pace steady so you get pieces that are equivalent in size.
- 6). Wipe the food off the blade when you get to the end of the celery. Push the chopped food aside and place the other half of celery in front of you to chop.
