Mountain Weekend Cooler Ideas

This is more of a "what" than an "if," as your frosty beverage of choice is fairly indispensable for your mountain weekend. Any nearby stream or lake will work well for quick refrigeration if you prefer your beverages cold. This is entirely your and your party's preference, but try to lean toward beverages that don't require mixing or ice. Wine or vodka coolers are ideal. Your choice of beer or other canned spirits is equally low maintenance. - 'Smores are an essential fireside food when camping.Jupiterimages/Photos.com/Getty Images
The ingredients for 'smores, the fireside treat that no campsite should be without, also make good hiking snacks. Chocolate and graham crackers are great for campers to enjoy while on the trail. Nuts and dried fruit are also good to take along on that hike, swim or canoeing trip. Avoid salty, greasy snacks like potato chips or pork rinds. Anything that would contribute to or worsen dehydration issues should be avoided. - A stovetop espresso machine packs well in your weekend mountain trip cooler.PhotoObjects.net/PhotoObjects.net/Getty Images
After a night of frosty beverages and 'smores, you'll need some steaming java to wake up in that cool dewy morning. You don't need a plug-in drip coffeemaker. A small espresso carafe needs only a heat source and water, and a French press needs only hot water. If you're particular about freshly ground beans, you can always prepare them a few days in advance to avoid packing a grinder. - This most versatile vegetable not only is almost impossible to mess up even over a temperamental campfire, but it can be prepared in almost any way (boiled, fried, mashed) for any time of day. It's high starch content also discourages and soothes stomach or intestinal disorders that tend to plague campers, like diarrhea, beaver fever or hangovers.
- Preferably thickly cut and a bit on the fatty side, this not only go great with those potatoes but is a great source of grease for cooking other items or as a base for sauces. It's also a great side dish and also makes an easy main course for any time of the day. Crumble it into salads and soups or use it to make sandwiches.
