How to Compare the Sogginess of Cereals for a Science Project
- Organize all the materials before beginning the experiment.Container of milk. Plastic milk bottle image by L. Shat from Fotolia.com
Select three different types of cereals, a pint of milk, a measuring cup, a stopwatch or clock with a second hand, 3 plastic bowls, a journal, a pen or pencil. The type of milk does not matter as long as it is the same type of milk on all the cereals. - Carefully observe the cereal after starting the timer.Breakfast Cereal image by Chris Henderson from Fotolia.com
Place the bowls on a table and number the types of cereals # 1, 2, and 3. Pour a different cereal in each of the bowls, using 1/2 cup of cereal for each bowl. After you have finished pouring the cereal in all the bowls, pour 1/4 cup milk in the first bowl of cereal and start the timer, recording. - Graphs are a good way to illustrate comparisons.graph bars image by Tomislav from Fotolia.com
Record the time as the cereal begins to get soggy. The experiment is complete when all the cereal is soggy. Compare the times and see which cereal stayed crispy the longest amount of time.
