Westbend 5528 Instructions
- 1). Plug the unit into a working power supply. Pull out the brew basket and set a #4 paper coffee filter into the filter basket. Add 1 tsp. ground coffee for each cup of coffee desired. Slide the filter basket back into place until it clicks.
- 2). Open the water reservoir and pour the appropriate amount of cool water into the tank for the number of cups to be brewed. Close the water reservoir lid and set the coffee carafe onto the coffee warming plate. The lid must be shut on the carafe with the opening positioned under the coffee dispenser.
- 3). Press the "Caffe" power switch and wait for the coffee to brew. Note that the carafe may be removed while coffee is brewing for 30 seconds to pour a cup before placing the carafe back on the warming plate.
- 4). Turn off and unplug the unit when the coffee has finished brewing and no longer needs to be kept warm.
- 1). Place the espresso filter basket into the filter holder and fill with ground espresso. There are markings on the inside of the filter basket for 2 or 4 cups of espresso. Lightly press the ground espresso and wipe away any grounds from the sides of the filter basket. Slide the filter basket and line up the arrow on the filter holder thumb guard with the arrow on the left side of the machine. Push the thumb guard back and raise the filter holder up and onto the brewing head. Turn the filter to the right firmly to lock it into place.
- 2). Open the water reservoir and unscrew the boiler cap counterclockwise to open. Fill the boiler chamber with cold water to the desired fill marking. Close the boiler cap clockwise to tighten.
- 3). Set the espresso carafe lid on the espresso carafe with the lid opening pointing towards the espresso dispenser. The spout of the filter holder should be positioned in the carafe opening. Turn the "Steam Release" valve clockwise to close. If making two cups of espresso, clip the 2-cup adapter onto the filter holder and set the cups under the spouts of the adapter.
- 4). Turn the "Espresso" switch to "On" and wait for the water to heat and brew the espresso. Turn the "Espresso" switch to "Off" when finished.
- 5). Wait for the machine to cool before removing the filter holder. Turn the filter holder to the left and hold the thumb guard down while discarding coffee grounds.
- 1). Fill a small steel pitcher with 4 oz. of cold milk once the espresso has brewed. Turn the "Espresso" knob to "On." Make sure there is water in the reservoir to create steam.
- 2). Set the tip of the frothing nozzle into the pitcher of milk and turn the Steam Release knob counterclockwise. Tilt the pitcher slightly and raise and lower the pitcher slightly with the nozzle submerged in the milk. Push the nozzle further into the milk when it has approximately doubled in volume to heat the milk.
- 3). Turn the Steam Release knob clockwise and turn the "Espresso" switch to "Off."
- 4). Use a clean damp cloth to clean the milk off the nozzle once it has cooled.
