How to Get Rid of Mold Under the Home
- 1). Mix 4 parts bleach to 1 part water in a clean spray bottle. Put on protective clothing, goggles, gloves and a mold-filtering respirator and prepare the mixture before going under your home.
- 2). Remove as much furniture and other items from the basement as possible. Boxes, furnishings, even toys can all contain mold and should be taken outdoors to be cleaned.
- 3). Locate every area that is moldy and spray it down with the bleach spray, wetting the mold spores. If any fabric, paper or carpeted areas have become moldy, the spray will discolor them, but they will have to be removed anyway.
- 4). Pull up moldy carpeting or rugs and dispose of them. Do the same for wallpaper or other paper wall treatments that are infected. If you notice any patches of mold that are not wet, wet the mold before removing the material it is on.
- 5). Spray the bare walls and other metallic, stone or glass surfaces with the bleach spray. Wipe the mold and bleach away with a scrub brush. Remove as much mold as possible this way, using more bleach if necessary.
- 6). Apply mold-root killing spray to every area where you sprayed bleach. Allow the spray to settle into the materials before wiping the cleaner away with the brush.
- 7). Disinfect the entire basement with more bleach spray, then wash everything down with plain, clean water. Dry the surfaces with a towel as much as possiblem, then allow the basement to air out completely. Open any windows and doors and use a circulating fan to allow air to remove any remaining moisture or dampness.
