Alaska Tours offers a wilderness kayak excursion out of Sitka. Guests are outfitted and transported by raft to a floating kayak base. The vessels are two-person ocean kayaks, four to six kayaks are led by one knowledgeable guide. Guests are instructed in the use of the kayaks and paddling techniques. They will travel several waterways during the tour, and see such sights as eagles, marine life and rainforest. This excursion involves only an hour and a half of kayak time; the entire experience takes three hours.

Alaska Tours offers another excursion in Sitka Sound, titled the "Sitka Marine Wildlife Cruise" and takes guests aboard a small motorized boat. The sound is located on the outskirts of the Tongass National Forest, which offers profuse wildlife viewing. Humpback whales, orcas, sea lions, harbor seals, sea otters, jumping salmon, puffins and eagles are commonly seen on this wildlife cruise. The boat captain for this excursion, as of October of 2010, is USCG licensed with 20 years of experience. He holds a degree in forestry and has worked as a forest service botanist and a fisheries biologist.

This is a land excursion in a passenger coach through Sitka's rich historic and cultural attractions. The Sitka National Historic Park encompasses lush rainforests full of signs of the area's native Tlingit people. Totem poles dot the path of this tour, and guests will learn of medicinal plants, salmon and rainforest ecology. The Sheldon Jackson Museum holds many native Alaskan artifacts; this tour allows visitors to walk through at their own pace before returning to the coaches. Then you'll visit a traditional clan house where native dance performance, cedar campfires and full native costumes will be seen.

Take a four-hour cruise in the plentiful fisheries of Sitka Sound. This is a world-class fishing destination. You must first acquire an Alaska fishing license and King Salmon stamps if you wish to fish for them. Other game fish include halibut and silver salmon. These charters are available between May and September when the fish come into the sound to feed.
