How to Control Sticky Vines
- 1). Pull up the longer sticky vines in your yard. Move slowly, getting up the roots that attach the vine to the ground or other structure. If you cannot get a root free, use a hand spade to dig it out. Pull them out all the way to the main base of the vine.
- 2). Fill a 5-gallon bucket with 3 gallons of broad leaf herbicide diluted with water, according to the package directions. Lift the free vines into the bucket and let them soak for 15 minutes so the chemicals make it to the root system.
- 3). Pull the vines out of the herbicide. Dig up the main root with your hand spade. Discard the sticky vines in the garbage.
- 4). Spray the broadleaf herbicide directly onto smaller vines that aren't long enough to fit in the bucket. Follow package directions for application instructions.
- 5). Monitor your yard next spring for any regrowth of the sticky vines. Immediately apply the herbicide to new sprouts as soon as you find them. You can also pull them up or dig them up with a garden hoe.
