Taking Control - Fibroids andHeavy Bleeding

103 1
Womens' menstrual cycle differs for us all.
Lets face it, we are all individuals and like everything else, we all have different experiences mentally physically and emotionally - there are no two women the same.
So dealing with heavy bleeding is a very traumatic state of affairs! Menstrual flow for me used to be a 7 day cycle - and quite light.
I have never suffered with heavy periods, aching stomach pains, prolonged illnesses with my periods or stress.
However, during the last few years, my period cycle changed drastically - with loss of blood and unknowing to myself at the time, I didn't realize that I was becoming anaemic! My periods were no longer normal - the cycle would range from 9 days to 28 days non stop with blood spotting in between! Was this an early menopause or was it due to the fibroids!I need to find out and fast!!! Bleeding may be something to worry about if it occurs between periods, after intercourse, or if you are over age 50, and experienced the menopause.
It is said that the risk of cancer increases with age therefore make sure you get regular checks.
If you completely soak through a sanitary pad or tampon every hour for 2-3 consecutive hours, this is considered a very heavy period.
A prolonged period is one that lasts longer than 7 days.
I also noticed that at times, my blood loss would continue for 2 months at a time (which included some days of very light blood spotting).
My doctor did not realize that I was anaemic then - his response was - just monitor how long the bleeding continues - and get back in touch soon! Even months later he couldn't believe the weight I lost, but it still did not occur to him that I was anaemic! It took my doctor 3 months to diagnose my anaemia! On my visit to the doctors and after discussing the problem, I was prescribed with iron tablets (Ferrous Sulphate) which I took for a couple of weeks and then found out about the herbal supplements which was a much healthier option so I decide to switch medications! The reason for switching because the side effects I suffered was constipation and my stool was a very dark color.
If you decide to take the above drug, please consult your doctor first and find out what the side effects are too.
There are other drugs which cannot be taken at the same time as Ferrous Sulphate - so find out.
I must say, once I started taking the iron replacement tablets and supplements prescribed, my period regulated itself and I still continue taking the appropriate supplements with no side effects and consist of pure natural products.
