Almost 70 to 90 percent of women who get pregnant would develop belly stretch marks especially during the later stages of their pregnancy.
Usually, these women would develop belly stretch marks in the third trimester of pregnancy wherein the body has undergone a lot of changes, from weight to abdominal girth.
When the body continues to rapidly gain weight during pregnancy, the woman is becoming more prone to develop stretch marks.
The skin pigmentation will continue to develop as the body continues to change during the course of pregnancy.
You will usually notice some red streaks on the different areas of your body especially on your belly.
In some women, these lines can appear purple or dark red to brown in its initial stages.
Belly stretch marks are common among pregnant women because the rapid increase in the abdominal girth of the pregnant women makes the skin tissues in the belly region prone to breakage.
There are many factors why these skin imperfections would appear on the skin of pregnant women such as changes in the levels of hormones and overstretching of the skin.
Usually, these marks would appear on the belly but it can also appear in other areas such as the upper arms, breasts, hips, buttocks, thighs, and legs.
During pregnancy, the woman's responsibility is to take care of her body and the baby inside her.
Medications or anything that contains harmful chemicals are not allowed during pregnancy to prevent harm to the developing fetus inside the woman's tummy.
Hence, even applying topical creams made with chemicals are not advised to be used by a pregnant woman.

Some experts suggest that the occurrence of these marks on the skin have its genetic origins.
Although there isn't any clear proof of connection, there are some cases wherein the severity of such marks seems to run in the family.
If your mother had severe skin marks before, then you are also predisposed to develop such marks on your skin.
In order to prevent having severe stretch marks on your skin, you can try some safe yet effective methods of lessening such skin marks.
When trying to prevent or lessen the occurrence of stretch marks, you should not be sacrificing your health.
Diet modification is probably the best way to lessen the stretch marks on your skin.
You need to eat foods that are rich in vitamins particularly vitamins A, C, and E.
These three vitamins help in promoting wound healing and skin regeneration.
This makes scars and skin pigmentations less visible while also strengthening the skin to make it less prone to breakage.
