Pre-Med Scholarships & Grants
- The University of Montana provides pre-med students scholarships with individual awards of up to $1,000. The Donald M. Hetler Pre-Medicine Scholarship requires that students are enrolled in the university's Pre-Medical Sciences Program and demonstrate financial need. Students should also have at least a 3.5 grade point average and plan to continue their education in the medical field.
The university's Henry J. and Mary Lahiff Wiegnestein Scholarship in Pre-Medicine is targeted to both chemistry and pre-med students. Other pre-med scholarships offered by the University of Montana include the Rocky Mountain Eye Center Scholarship for students with grade point averages of 3.0 or higher and the Bernice A. Gleed Scholarship fund. The Bernice A. Gleed award is awarded to 10 recipients who have been enrolled at least two semesters at the University of Montana and possess a 3.3 GPA. - High school students are eligible to apply for the Palo Alto Foundation Group (PAFMG) Pre-Medical Scholarship. The award is offered to students who plan to major in pre-medicine at a four-year college or university and pursue a career as a physician. Scholarships are equivalent to $20,000 per recipient, with $5,000 allotted for each undergraduate year. Applicants must be in the top 20 percentile of their class, provide transcripts and exhibit financial need. Additional materials, such as copies of federal tax returns from parents or a guardian, and a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), must also be submitted with the application.
- Students heavily involved in extracurricular, community and volunteer activities may be eligible to apply to the John and Esther Brougher Memorial Pre-Medical Scholarship. Additionally, applicants must be planning to enroll in a pre-med program. Awards are used for tuition, room and board and school supplies at either private or public universities. Application requirements include an essay, recommendation letters and a formal interview. Up to $1,000 is awarded to scholarship winners.
- The Walter Ridley Pre-Medical Scholarship is available to African-American students who are seniors at the University of Virginia. To be eligible, applicants must have completed required pre-medical courses and plan to enroll in a medical school the coming semester. Students must also provide MCAT test scores. Award amounts are $1,000, which can be used to pay for application and interview fees.
