  Creating stained glass requires the use of several small tools. You can start creating glass with the basic, essential tools and add to your tool kit as your skill increases. Always wear your safety goggles as you will be working with sharp pieces of glass.
  
  

Glass Cutter

• A glass cutter is required as you will need to cut the glass to fit your pattern. There are oil-filled glass cutters and glass cutters without their own oil. Those without require dipping the wheel in oil. All glass cutters have tungsten carbide wheels.
  
  

Copper Foil

• Copper foil serves as the lines and the seal for the glass. You can purchase copper foil with an adhesive. When soldered, it will seal with or without the adhesive side. Foil tape varies in width and thickness. Copper foil can be interchanged with lead, but copper foil is considered safer to work with.
  
  

Soldering Iron

• A soldering iron is essential to creating stained glass. The heat from the iron seals the glass and foil. The iron should have a heat capacity of 80 to 200 watts and have a variety of tips. You can choose between a gas-powered or electric iron.
