Light

• Since the Sabine Bauer variety has a dark purple hue, it should be protected from direct sunlight when the sun is at its peak. Overexposure to direct sunlight when the sun is at its hottest could lead to a faded, lighter purple color. Nevertheless, the plant needs at least six hours of sun to grow properly. If your daylily is potted, place it in direct sunlight for the majority of the day and move into partial shade during peak sun hours. If the daylily is rooted in the ground, plant it in an area that receives some shade in the afternoon.
  
  

Water

• Giving your daylily ample amounts of water will lead to more blooms. The plant is especially thirsty in the spring and summer months when it is sending out new growth and producing blossoms. Water 1 inch a week as a guide, providing more water during the hotter months if the soil appears too dry. Let the plant drain between watering, as allowing the roots to sit in water can lead to rotting.
  
  

Fertilizer

• Daylilies benefit from fertilizing, especially during the spring when the plant is sending out new growth. Use a fertilizer with equal amounts of nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium such as 13-13-13.
